I Vacation in your PORTLAND: Light Asylum with Litanic Mask

Portland is a Gothic wet dream, darkness, an abyss of trees, endless sadness and a fucking insane Goth Scene. So I left the smog of Los Angeles for some northern rain drops. When I arrived there was no rain…just sunshine and heat. Felt more like I vacation in your MIAMI, which I could use as a stand in for the word hell. Arrived in some industrial part of town at a place called the Rotture. It’s an interesting choice to decide not to number the buildings around here, but it’s not my city so I can’t complain…vacations are pretty much hell though, and I’m a masochist to create myself as a perpetual tourist. The bands didn’t start until really late, so I went and grabbed something to eat and missed Light House the opener opener. Came back just in time for Litanic Mask.

Very ethereal and very electro goth and very mellow. Most of their drum programming is crafted from rolling drum fills, good stuff if you are in the mood. Goths like to dance, and finally at the climax of Litanic’s set the trio played a number that had the northern goths moving. These guys will probably take note of the strong reaction to their more disco inspired beats and in future material supply us with dance-able creations.

Then Light Asylum came on. As expected their set was electrifying. Shannon Funchess’ voice is part Sex Pistols part Michael Jackson…you know how it sounds. Fucking legendary performance. Most bands will never have this kind of stage presence. You better catch these guys while they are on the up-and-up although they don’t look like they will be coming down anytime soon.
